Rector
Since 2017, Professor Claudio Pettinari is the current rector of the University of Camerino.
Born in 1964, he graduated cum laude in Chemistry from the University of Camerino (1989).
Since 2010, he holds the position of Full Professor (Academic Discipline CHIM/03 – Chemistry) at the University of Camerino. He is member of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and Head of the Camerino Research Unit Camerino of the CNR Institute of Chemistry of Organometallic Compounds (ICCOM) in Sesto Fiorentino.
At Unicam, he also held positions of Chemical Technician (1989-1992), University Researcher (1992-2000), and Associate Professor (2000-2010).
He received the Flavio Bonati Italian National Prize for Organometallic Chemistry in 1998, and the Raffaello Nasini Medal, awarded by the Italian Chemical Society, in 2004 for Inorganic Chemistry.
In the years 1999 and 2001, he was Visiting Researcher at the University of Zaragoza, and in 2007 at the University of Seville, in the context of research projects for the Italy/Spain Integrated Action.
He has visited various foreign universities, holding conferences and maintaining scientific collaboration relationships with numerous research groups.
He currently teaches General and Inorganic Chemistry for the Degree Programme in Pharmacy, as well as Chemistry Education and Inorganic and Organometallic Biochemistry for Degree Programmes in Chemistry.
He is co-author of textbooks for high school students and university texts in the field of General Chemistry, and author of the book Scorpionates-II Chelating Borate Ligands, published by Imperial College Press. He is member of organising committees of numerous conferences, schools (International School of Organometallic Chemistry, ISOC), and intensive programmes (Advanced Catalysis and Organometallic Chemistry, ACAOC,) as well as events for cultural and scientific dissemination of chemical disciplines.
He focuses on Organometallic Chemistry and Chemistry of Coordination Compounds, with applications in the field of innovative materials, in the synthesis of compounds with biological activity, and in the production of new catalysts for polymerisation and oxidation reactions. He is author of over 250 publications in prestigious international journals, member of the Advisory Boards of the journals Inorganica Chimica Acta, Bioinorganic Chemistry and Application, and Open Inorganic Chemistry.
He is currently member of the International Scientific Committee of the Conference on Nitrogen Donor Ligands in Organometallic Chemistry, and Catalysis and Coordination Chemistry. He was Invited Plenary Speaker at the International Conference on Organometallic Chemistry in Lisbon (ICOMC 2012) and at the European Conference on Organometallic Chemistry in Toulouse (EUCOMC 2011).
Since 2009, he has been Director of the International School of Organometallic Chemistry (ISOC). sponsored by the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) and the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS). He is a member of the Committee for International Cooperation of the Marche Region, delegate for UNICAM of UNIADRION, Alliance for Materials (A4M) and of the Italian National Institute of Science and Technology of Materials.
He is recipient of Honorary Doctorate from the University of Galati, member of the Lisbon Academy, Chairman of the International School of Organometallic Chemistry since 2005, and permanent secretary of the EuCheMS Conference on Nitrogen Donor Ligands in Catalysis and Organometallic Chemistry.
He has been coordinating numerous regional research projects (the “Young Technologists” project - Marche Region/AIPOL; projects “Coordination compounds of Au and Pt with anticancer properties” and “Coordination compounds of Biocompatible Ti” - CARIMA Foundation, 2004/2005); national research projects (the “New polyfunctional porous coordination polymers” project - PRIN MIUR; Italian-Russian Interuniversity Cooperation (New Rh and Ir catalysts - COOPERLINK MIUR, 2000 and 2001); Italian-Romanian Interuniversity Cooperation (Chemists for energy, environment and health - COOPERLINK MIUR, 2008); “Original metal-catalysed syntheses of active pharmaceutical compounds” - Dipharma Francis 2006-2008); and international research projects (Italy/Spain Integrated Action, 2006 and 2007; Young Indian Researchers Project “Nanoscience and Nanotechnology”, 2007 and 2008; New luminescent Rh and Ir complexes for catalysis – INTAS project 00469 – Russia, Spain, and Italy, 2001-2003).
He currently collaborates with over 30 national and international research groups. He is author of over 350 publications in international journals, 5 patents, and 4 books, as well as a speaker at dozens of national and international conferences.
He was Deputy Vice Rector from 2011 to 2017, Rector’s representative for international mobility from 2006 to 2011, Head of the Degree Programme in Pharmacy from 2000 to 2004, Head of Degree Programme in Scientific Information on Medicines from 2005 to 2008, President of the Conference of Degree Programmes in Scientific Information on Medicines from 2007 to 2009.
